About The Lexus NX PHEV

There is a lot to like about the Lexus NX, the roomy interior, the advanced driver’s aid technology, and the bold styling are all major factors. But this is all helped by an unusually long list of available drivetrain options, including two conventional gasoline engines, a “traditional” hybrid, and now the NX is the first Lexus model to offer a plug-in hybrid drivetrain as well. This new drivetrain is also the most powerful one offered in the NX, coming in at 304 horsepower. It cuts more than half a second off the 0-60 time of the second-quickest NX trim, which is a seriously impressive feat. The trims that come with the PHEV drivetrain sit at the top of the NX lineup, and that means you get an extremely well-equipped vehicle to go with all that power. That means you get all of the luxury features that come standard on the NX, like a 10-speaker Lexus Premium Sound System, as well as quite a few standard features that are optional on lower trims, like the 14-inch touchscreen display, or the 10-inch head-up display.

What the Critics Say

"Cabin design takes a big leap forward in this generation of NX, with a modern look and classy materials. The NX offers one of the more spacious cabins in the luxury subcompact crossover segment, with slightly more passenger room in the rear seat and more cargo space with the rear seats folded than many of its rivals." — Car & Driver

"Ultimately, the most appealing and distinctive powertrain option is found in the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. Its electric motor provides the smooth, effortless punch expected of a PHEV thanks to its 304 total system horsepower." — Autoblog

Plug-In Hybrid Drivetrain

You have a lot more drivetrain options for the NX than exist for most vehicles in this segment, and this is always a good thing. But the PHEV drivetrain is certainly the most exciting. Not just because it produces the most power, but also because its 37-mile all-electric range is long enough that most people won’t need to burn any gasoline at all during normal daily commuting. Combine in-town all-electric driving with the fact that there is a gasoline engine as well, and road trips remain as easy as they’ve ever been. Both PHEV trims of the NX come with standard all-wheel drive, and the F-Sport trim comes with a specialized suspension setup for better performance handling. The NX 450h+ comes with a whole range of driving modes, consisting of ECO, Normal, Sport and EV. For those who choose the F-Sport trim, it’s a slightly longer list, consisting of ECO, Normal, Sport S, Sport S+, EV and Custom modes. The versatility of the PHEV drivetrain makes it easy to feel confident behind the wheel, no matter what the conditions.

Lexus NX PHEV F-Sport Interior

Unrivaled Luxury

The interior of the NX was already impressive - if just for its roominess alone, as it offers much more space than you’d generally find in a compact SUV. But since the plug-in hybrid drivetrain is only available at the higher trims, there isn’t much equipment that doesn’t come standard. That means you get the 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, and the heated and ventilated leather seats as standard equipment. You can set the mood with the 64-color ambient lighting, which comes with selectable themes and is standard only on the PHEV trims. And you can literally breathe easy, thanks to the dual-zone climate control with an interior air filter, smog sensor and automatic recirculation mode that comes standard on all of the NX trims, since clean air that’s a comfortable temperature is essential in a luxury vehicle. The exterior gets its share of impressive standard equipment as well, including 20-inch wheels, and the highly advanced Bi-LED headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System and daytime running lights.

The Latest Technology

From the advanced drivetrain and a standard 10-inch head-up display, to the 14-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the NX PHEV comes with a lot of seriously impressive technology. Perhaps most impressive is the long list of safety technology, which is part of the reason for the unbeatable safety record that Lexus can boast about. The NX comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, a suite of safety technology that frequently comes at a premium price in competing vehicles. This includes All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Intersection Support, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and others. All of this contributes to one of the best luxury features there is - your sense of security and safety. For PHEV buyers, it gets even better, since those are the only trims where the Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking come standard.
