J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study
The 2023 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study1 illustrates the problem faced by many luxury vehicle shoppers. The study tracks the average number of problems per 100 vehicles made by each brand over a three-year period, with the results being reflected as a PP100 score. The lower the number, the better the reliability, with the industry average coming in at 186 PP100. The average for luxury cars is worse, at 205 PP100, but Lexus boasts a score of 133 PP100. That number isn’t just significantly better than the luxury car average, or even the industry average, it’s the best of any automotive brand in North America.
Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards
Resale value isn’t entirely dependent on reliability, but we can all agree that reliability is certainly one of the most important factors. The industry experts on resale value, Kelley Blue Book, have an annual ranking3 of the models that best hold their value over the first 5 years of ownership. There is also an award for the two best brands overall, one for the best mainstream brand and one for the best luxury brand. The Lexus LS and LX both received individual awards, but more importantly, Lexus was named the best luxury brand. On top of this, the parent company of Toyota received the award for the best mainstream brand.
